Cori-Seal – How it works
The Cori-Seal System is designed to prevent the smoke from a fire spreading into the escape routes
The correct installation of smoke plugs
As per manufactures recommendations, smoke plugs should be fitted during the construction phase.
No matter the corresponding angle the inner perforated lining sheets are laying, the purpose of the smoke plugs is to stop/contain the smoke to one area so it cannot pass freely over the walls or through the perforations into adjoining rooms, corridors or means of escape.
If the plugs have not been installed during the construction phase, it is not possible to install them now without major structural alteration.
The non-installation of smoke plugs
If the smoke plugs have not been installed into the inner perforated lining sheets during construction, should a fire start in a room adjacent to the means of escape when the inner perforated lining sheet is running parallel to the wall, it allows smoke to pass freely from the room of origin, through the perforated decking above the dividing walls and into the means of escape. This could also continue into other compartments leading to the rapid smoke spread throughout the building.
The Cori-Seal Systems® Ltd patented product permanently seals the perforated holes in the inner perforated lining sheets within the corridors and means of escape by spraying the outside of the inner perforated lining sheets, with our own fire-retardant material sealing the perforations. Blocking and preventing smoke spreading into the means of escape. Not only to evacuate the premises but allow the emergency services time to secure the area.
The Cori-Seal system makes it quick and viable to apply to the affected areas with little disturbance to the use of the building.
Using the Cori-Seal Systems® service is a fraction of the cost of removing the roofing panels or the flooring from the room above to fit the missing fire stopper infill plugs.
